which is better, the 6+1 port or the 3 port + ethernet one?

looking at the reviews the 6+1 has more positive feedbacks

and will the transfer rate drop when multiple HDDs are transferring?

Well if you don't need an ethernet port don't get the ethernet one...

I would buy based on how many devices you are going to plug in. The way you word it makes it sound like you may (at one point) Plug in more than 3 devices.

If your laptop already has an fully functional Ethernet port then a USB 3.0 one won't serve much purpose.

And yes, transfer rates will drop when multiple devices are transferring data over the port. The more devices trying to operate at once the slower things will be.
