Need help with a new build

My 4yr old build had died on today, and so I'm looking to get a completely new build. So I'm looking for some advice on whether this is a good quality build or not.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

This all seems fine except for the ram, it would probably be a good idea to get two DIMS instead of just one

That build is so good. My only suggestion is maybe get 2*4 8gb ram, or If you can wait a few months you can get the new 300 series, just throwing it out there.

Rest in Pepperoni

I would like to stay around $900 but if increasing my budget to around $1000 is better for a long term investment then $1000ish is my budget.

I'll look into some 2x4gb options. Any recommendations that are a good price?

You could look into a better GPU, for 900-1000$ Look into the 970/ r9 290x

Any certain manufacturers you recommend for either card?

Here's a build just under $1000 with a 970, 2 sticks of ram and a cheaper motherboard.

Also the power supply you picked isn't available and wasn't adding up to the total cost of your build so I changed it.

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($222.75 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($99.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 970 4GB STRIX Video Card  ($329.00 @ NCIX US)
Case: Corsair 300R ATX Mid Tower Case  ($59.99 @ Micro Center)
Total: $982.66
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

I already own the power supply so that shouldn't be a problem. However, I was wondering if the power supply in my list was a good and reliable one.

Yes it is a very good power supply

I also think its a good choice to get a 970 instead of the 290, and get a dual channel RAM kit

FX-8350 GTX760 16GB RAM 250GB SSD + 1TB HDD

Is there a relatively cheap motherboard similar to the one you suggested that as an optical audio port on it or should I just get a sound card?

I would have brought Krait Edition in a heartbeat if it had an optical port but instead went for this: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-motherboard-z97gaming3

It's $23 more but has an optical port and an on board sound card but doesn't have SLI support.

I feel like not getting SLI support will hurt me in the long term, but I'm not completely sure. Do you think getting a separate sound card is a viable option?

Sound cards are usually expensive from what I remember

If you definitely need SLI and optical then this gigabyte board will work: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-motherboard-gaz97xgaming3

It's $125 and has everything you want.
