It's because there was a lot of stress on the GPU in that machine. If it can't run TF2, I don't know how you're ever going to game on it. It's not really a problem, just more of a "this laptop can't run an undemanding game" kind of thing.
BTW mentioning how many Ghz your CPU has does nothing. There are 4.5Ghz CPUs that suck, but there are 2.0Ghz Xeons that are extremely powerful. Mentioning the actual model might help, but other than that not really. And 1GB RAM? Dude, how do you even run Windows on that smoothly? Not trying to hate.
