4k Questions

Go to solution Solved by Glenwing,

I am thinking about upgrading from a 1080p Asus monitor to some type of 4k monitor. I was wondering if I do this would I have a decrease in FPS? For example if I got 60fps in a game at 1080p would I get something like 35-40 FPS at 4k? Also, I was wondering how I would connect my computer to the 4k monitor? Would a HDMI 1.4 work? I don't know if the following will help but I have a R9-280X Gigabyte Windforce Editon Overclocked and a AMD FX-8350. Any help would be appreciated.

-Thanks

You'll get about 1/4 to 1/3 performance if you keep all the settings the same. You can use HDMI 1.4 but you will be limited to a maximum of 30Hz. You need HDMI 2.0 or DisplayPort 1.2 to get 60Hz.

An R9 280X is too weak to do 4K gaming at high details (my 780 Ti chokes heavily) but maybe it will do better at low settings.

Displayport would work for 4K and I think HDMi 1.4 will do it too (30Hz though, not optimal :P )

And 4K compared to 1080p is like 4 times harder to run (and so takes away 3/4 of the performance/fps)

(because 4 1080p screens fit in 1 4K screen)
