I personally don't think that Wi-Fi extenders are worth it. I think it'd be better to have multiple access points on different channels in different parts of the house.

Sig under construction.

I concur. Buying multiple of the same router and using one as the gateway, and the rest as wireless bridges is more ideal than a range extender. Until you get into enterprise grade extenders, they really aren't worth your time or your money.

How much would that cost & how hard would it be to setup?

Setting up bridged routers isn't too difficult in my experience. Just make sure the firmware supports bridging. If it doesn't, you'll have to use a custom firmware, or different router. What router do you have? Unless it is rented from Comcast.. then we have issues..

It's my major in college :P But you wouldn't need another modem. Most companies only allow one modem per household. You would need another router, it has no coaxial connection like a modem does. You might have an all in one device (hate those things to death, tbh), which might MIGHT make things tricky. Not impossible, but possibly tricky. In your case, if you aren't spending the money, it might be difficult to convince the parents to buy one, two, or three more routers at $50-150 a piece, so here is when I would probably just recommend one GOOD range extender. I've heard wonderful things about this one; http://www.netgear.com/home/products/networking/wifi-range-extenders/EX6200.aspx. I've been meaning to pick one up to test it out, but I can't afford to at the moment, even if I do return it a few days later. Research is certainly your best friend here.

Also, how large was the apartment, and how large is the new house? (In square feet please)

You'll probably need two of those range extenders to cover everything efficiently, possibly three... No getting away from multiple devices in a house that large. Meh, this could turn into a small project very quickly.. lol

It is completely possible... for several thousand dollars. It's expensive and requires enterprise grade equipment. Meh, this really is a project!

I'm no pro on this, but if you can use access points you will definitely get better connection on you entire house, compare to wifi repeater or extender. I have the apple routers(sorry was easy to setup, and is parents proof). 2 extreme and one express, its fairly good for a 4-5 years old router. but for exemple I have a house fairly smaller than yours (3.5k sqft), the connection when im upstairs which is the last repeater, its ridiculous slow. I'm about to start a small project and see if I can make a access point to my living room, and maybe try one of those powerline extenders to connect another access point all the way to my top floor. Also what you can do is mabe check the phone lines and see if they are cat5e, that can help a lot I think.

also could you explain to me the difference between

Access Point Mode (Default)

Connect to a wired network and transform wired Internet access into wireless allowing multiple devices/users to share the Internet.

Typical Applications: Home, office, and places where only wired network is available. LAN parties, meetings and other environments where a temporary wireless network is needed. Hotels where wireless internet or multiple devices are charged for a higher fee.

Repeater Mode

Receives and broadcasts your existing wireless signal to extend wireless range (the network SSID and password will not change). This mode is especially useful for covering areas that receive little or no wireless signal strength.

Typical Applications: Used in a large house, office, warehouse or anywhere the existing signal is weak and unstable.

For the first one do you have to plug in the access point to your router? and then it transmits the internet to the entire house? I basically understand the second one. Which mode do you think would be better for me though?(Spoke to my parents they said that if its going to cost that much it isnt worth it to bring it outside.
