I want to build a budget gaming PC for around 500 USD, I live in Hong Kong so the prices may defer.

These are my current thoughts

CPU - Intel i3 4160 3.6Ghz

Mobo - ASUS H81M - E

GPU - Galaxy GTX 960 2GB GDDR5

PSU - Corsair CX 430M 80 Plus Bronze

RAM - ADATA 8 GB Standard DDR3 - 1600 CL11

HDD - WD Blue 1 TB 7200RPM

Stock CPU Cooler

Case - Corsair 100r

OD Drive - ASUS OEM Drive

Can I get your opinions on these?

This would be my first build

What should I decrease the price in to accommodate an SSD and which model should I get

For a 500 dollar budget, you shouldnt worry about getting an SSD imo.

I'm not sure an i3 is even that important on a budget this low. The Pentium G3258 is a worthy alternative if it's just for gaming.

See if you can get ahold of an R9 280X. You'll be able to find them for a cheaper price than a 960, and you'll get better performance out of it too.

Power supply.. Try and get a good quality 550W if you can. I'm not sure what they're like in Hong Kong but the CX series is an almightly rip-off here in Australia.

Everything else seems fine. An SSD isn't a necessity on a budget like this. It's something you can always add later if need be.

Need help with the RMA/retail side of things? Feel free to send me a PM, always happy to share my industry experience with others.

The Cheapest 280 would be the Gigabyte one, costing 130 HKD (16 USD more) while other brands like MSI or ASUS will cost a lot more

The 285 would cost me 330 HKD (43 USD) more for the cheapest model.

Do you think its worth the extra money?

I was originally considering a G3258 and overclocking it, however, I've seen on forums that Far Cry 4 won't even start on a Pentium and in BF: Hardline's minimum specs it has the i3 on it. I'm afraid in 1 year new games won't even run on a Pentium.

The 280X is a lot more expensive than the 960 that I was looking at costing 330 HKD more (43 USD), and would also require a bigger PSU.

Although the 430M has some pretty poor reviews, its the cheapest 80 Plus and Modular PSU, unless theres a better PSU you could recommend for around the same price point.

You can add on SSD later on when you save up some money and just copy paste your OS over to the SSD. I would get something with about 128G to 260G , go with whatever's cheapest as they are all mostly the same speed

Been playing on a laptop for 6 years, I play Dota 2 with 10fps. Some might say this is impossible, I say its just annoying

Get the 960 as long as it is cheaper.
