So I watched Linus's video on this when it came out earlier today, since then I have watched it a few times. It seems he thinks it is mostly pointless because of needing 200% scaling. So who is this monitor really for then if you have to scale everything up why not go 1440p?

Windows 8.1 does scaling pretty good in my opinion. Applications such as Photoshop are optimized for high resolution displays anyway. Why not have more space? :)

I have never tried anything bigger than 1440p with any adobe programs. I was looking at 4k monitors but the Dell seemed like it would be better as you could play True 4k and have more workspace in premiere. But does it really justify the price tag for a business environment?

Yep. I am now gaming and working with 4K monitors and I couldn't just go back to 1080p. The question is- do you want more screen space on a single tile? It comes in handy in many situations without the need of having multiple displays.

More space would be nice, currently I have 3 1080p monitors and am looking to get either 3 4k ones or 2 5k. Planing to buy them in the fall.

as someone who owns a 4k monitor i dont think the scaling issue is one that needs to be worried about. Occasionally you'll run into something that doesnt look right or is hard to read. Steam for example scales badly and all the text is tiny, but its still usable. Occasionally ill lose half of task manager as well, but apart from that its fine. I just set my windows DPI to 150% and all icons to large, and the general experience apart from he few things above is exactly the same as it was for me at 1080p

Gaming PC: • AMD Ryzen 7 3900x • 16gb Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3200mhz • Founders Edition 2080ti • 2x Crucial 1tb nvme ssd • NZXT H1• Logitech G915TKL • Logitech G Pro • Asus ROG XG32VQ • SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless

Laptop: MacBook Pro M1 512gb

Do you notice that you have more work room or does it just feel like 1080p?

WAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY more work space lol! you can have 4 separate windows open at once that are all perfectly usable and not too small to use.

I find myself watching a 1080p youtube video in one quarter, a website in another, and the other half of the screen i use for what ever I'm doing! my screen is 28" i wouldn't recommend going any smaller than that for 4k

A 27" 5K monitor at 200% scaling would effectively be a standard 27" 1440p monitor with anti-aliasing.

The point of a 27" 5K monitor or a 24" 4K monitor isn't to give you 4x the workspace and to make everything 4x as small as a 27" 1440p or 24" 1080p monitor. They're to increase sharpness. It's the exact same idea as what Apple did when they introduced the retina display on the iPhone 4. You couldn't suddenly hold 4x as many icons on the home screen. Nothing was any smaller and you didn't gain any "desktop space". The whole point of it is to run everything scaled up to 200% so it's the same size, except with much better sharpness, and the same is with these monitors.  The only problem is that Windows scaling isn't perfect. If you use it with a Mac though it's a better experience.

That's because a GTX 770 doesn't output 10-bit color and most applications don't use 10-bit colors. It's a specialty feature.

The new Dell 5K is 10bit panel as Linus mentioned. Most 4K displays use an 8bit panel since they are TN.

Did you just download all of that knowledge into your brain or were you just born that way? :D JK
