Trouble installing Mic driver

Go to solution Solved by Bonesy,

Would you mind humoring me for a moment? Can you create a new Windows User(Admin) and try installing it there?

Gonna start pulling hair out :S

So I just got my Blue yeti Pro mic, plugged it in, and (as I expected) missing drivers. So I went to the site to get the drivers.

Driver link I used (quite sure this is the legit drivers): http://www.bluemic.com/yetipro/#/drivers/

So I got the drivers:

Extracted it:

Ran the setup and this happens for a brief second followed by the little load circle by my cursor and then NOTHING happened:

So then I decide maybe I can get around this:

And it extracts all the files to the folder, including the Setup.exe, (I'll spare you guys the image lol) I try to run it and nothing happens...

Any ideas?

I've tried admin mode and compatibility modes.

I've looked all over the net for a fix, came up dry and have nowhere else to turn :/

As for my OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Go into device manger and see if it's finding it there. If it is, just do search for driver automatically

Forgive me if I'm mis-understanding something, but why are you trying to extract the contents of a compiled EXE? Run as admin on the compiled EXE, not the setup.EXE that was extracted from it

The self extraction of the EXE didn't work on my machine(idk why) So I extracted it manually with Winrar

As for the setup I extracted from it (among other files) it will not execute either. (or rather looking in taskmngr it closes immediately

Here is what shows in Task manager and then goes away a few seconds after:

I don't know if it's the case with this particular program or not....but many of them simply won't function properly if the file structure isn't as it thinks it should be. Have you ran the file "BlueYeti_blahblah.exe" as admin under XP compatibility? (NOT the extracted setup.exe)

Tried it to no avail. same results.

Unplug the mic, and attempt it again please

Unplugged it, tried running it multiple times as admin and it just closes after the "extracting" window pops up for a brief 1/4th second or so. (also the setup you see in taskmngr goes away after about 2-5 sec)

I assume you've tried re-booting also? I would also try disabling/re-enabling the device in DM....and then uninstalling it, re-booting, and installing driver without mic plugged in, if none of that worked.

Well I don't think it has anything to do with the device personally, I just think for some reason my computer just won't open the Setup.exe file :S I did try unplug>restart>launch file. Same results.

Just sent the file to my friend who also has Windows 7 ultimate and no yeti, the setup opened fine for him. Def something with my PC not letting it open :/

I would still try uninstalling the device from DM, and re-installing it with mic unplugged. Then, you can manually select the driver from DM and attempt install that way. If none of that works....I don't have any other answers for you :(

What do you mean "re-install it with the mic plugged in"? plug the mic back in and let it auto install? won't work it is not a plug and play device. Needs to be manually installed through the installer I have I think.

At this point it is simply: I have an executable that will not open properly on my computer, but will open on everyone else's computer.

nono, I said re-install with mic UNplugged.

uninstall the driver Windows auto-installed, unplug mic so it doesn't try to install it's own drivers again. Then with mic unplugged, use the installer from Blue. If this still doesn't work. Plug in the mic, select the appropriate device(that windows now installed when you plugged it in) from device manager, and manually install the driver, telling it where to update the driver software from.(Then choosing the downloaded driver)

I do understand the issue, but please also understand...it's not as simple as that. You mentioned your friend had no issues installing it, and your friend also does not have the mic or the pre-loaded windows drivers installed either. Which is why my first recommendation is to uninstall them and unplug the mic....so we can attempt to isolate the cause of the issue, by replicating known-good configurations.

The Blue installer won't open no matter what the status is of the driver :/ I've tried. as for manually selecting the folder from device manager this is what happens:

Doesn't work

Is there some way I can figure out what the error is, or what is causing it?

I'm about to just admit defeat and but a copy of Windows 8.1 and wipe my disk, and fresh install everything.

For the above SS, you were selecting the "Blue USB Audio 2.0" when telling it where to find the driver correct? Do you see Error Code 10 "Device cannot start" for this device? Also, I noticed you are using the built-in windows archive manager for viewing ZIP files...you might want to try extracting the main EXE to your desktop, and running it there.

Yes I selected the 2.0 one and pointed it at the folder with the extracted files and installer. As for extracting I use winrar, all pictures are of extracted files. I've tried using windows explorer to extract the files to the same results, but the BLUE_YetiPro_DriverSetup_v2.23.0.exe will not self extract I had to use winrar, but I think it keeps the files compressed anyway and just runs the Setup.exe (because that is what shows in task manager when running the aforementioned exe) which is where the problem lies.

My PC will just not run Setup.exe Idk why.

lol, that was meant just to help isolate the issue to local(just user) or global(entire OS), but if you want to use it as a fix instead, no worries.

Well, I do wonder why that fixed it... you think that means there is something seriously wrong with my main profile?

It means that the problem is arising from a program/driver that you installed/have/etc...if it were a windows system problem, the new user would have it also.

So now you can investigate what program it is, start with the usual suspects; scan for malware with MalwareBytes, stop your AV program, kill any process you don't need running in task manager. Boot into safe mode and see if problem persists. You'll find the culprit eventually, although it is annoying, I don't have any way to truly speed the process for you.

Well, I do know it persisted in safe mode, so that most likely rules out programs as well. as for drivers I think they are the same across users right? so maybe it is in registry... idk I'm sure I will figure it out eventually, but I'm ok with it for now. Thanks!
