High temperatures on AMD R9 280X?

Mophead

I recently (just today) finally made the jump and moved from my two GTX 550 Ti's to an MSI R9 280x. I installed it earlier, but I didn't have the time to fully test it / benchmark etc. For the past hour I've been trying to benchmark it with 3D Mark's Fire Strike, and Unigine Valley. In both scenarios, the GPU temperature rises rapidly, up to around 85 degrees C, at this point artifacts start appearing on the screen and both of my monitors go black a couple of seconds later, usually around 89-90 degrees.

I have not overclocked this card at all, and I've even tried setting the fan to 100% regardless of the load with MSI Afterburner, same result.. The card also idles at around 50 degrees C, with 2 1080p monitors.. I know some AMD GPU's can run hot, but this seems a bit ridiculous....

Woah. The power is real.

But, that artifacting is BAD. Replace the thermal paste

Could be RMA

Is your PC in a sauna mate?

Seriously though, just to confirm - you have it in in the proper PCIe slot? I have the MSI 270x, which uses the same cooler and it never goes above 52c, with an OC + fan speed @28%.
