Go to solution Solved by SuperPug,

Ahh thats bad to hear for my wallet shiet

I mean for now you can use the i7 920. Just keep in mind that you're not using the full potential of the GTX 970 until you upgrade ;)

Wrong section, please move to CPU

Hey i was wondering if the i7 920 is a good CPU for gaming . And can you answer if you think it would bottleneck a GTX 970?

Not by that much. Even less so if you overclock it

Dont get a 970 if you're running the i7 920 unless you're set on upgrading it very soon.

I have a friend that still uses a i7 920. Has it OC'd to 3.8Ghz. Still a very good CPU. He has a GTX 670 with it. He has no plans to upgrade from it until it dies. I don't see how it could bottelneck a 970. Still a very good CPU for what it is.

The only time a CPU will bottleneck a gpu these days is with really slow dual cores or AMD quads. so dont worry

I got a 970 already,  wondering if it was worth getting the 920 for about 35 bucks What you think?

Do you get a motherboard with it as well? If you do then yea I'd say its worth it vs buying a new CPU and new motherboard. If you don't then good luck finding a motherboard unless you can get it for stupid cheap from the same guy. I'd make sure it worked first if you could.

This to an extent.

There's really no point in getting a 920 at this point, get something more recent, or if you're strapped for cash, go AMD. You'll get much more bang for yo $$

My 950 bottlenecks my 970 harder than you'd imagine.

I say get it and go hog wild. Get an AIO or build your own small water loop and oc the hell out of it. When it finally croaks you can upgrade to skylake lol.

Also its an i7, it won't bottleneck a GTX 970 too badly, if at all.

Ah no just have the gtx 970!

In that case get a i5 4460.. 1366 is such an old platform theres no point in spending any more money on it.

at least in my experience, my 950 is crazy bottlenecking it, for the breif time i had my 950 at 4GHz before it degraded i got ~20-30fps gains in most games, idk if any of the higher specced 1366's will do you any better, but that's my experience.

That said, it's really not *that* bad, but it does hurt some to know that your gpu will always be underutilized
