CPU i7 920

Go to solution Solved by SuperPug,

Ahh thats bad to hear for my wallet shiet

I mean for now you can use the i7 920. Just keep in mind that you're not using the full potential of the GTX 970 until you upgrade ;)

at least in my experience, my 950 is crazy bottlenecking it, for the breif time i had my 950 at 4GHz before it degraded i got ~20-30fps gains in most games, idk if any of the higher specced 1366's will do you any better, but that's my experience.

That said, it's really not *that* bad, but it does hurt some to know that your gpu will always be underutilized

Yep thats how i am feeling right now :/

In that case get a i5 4460.. 1366 is such an old platform theres no point in spending any more money on it.

Then i have to buy a new motherboard aswell :c

Just one idea its maybe to buy the processor for 35 bucks now and then use it for a while and then later on the road buy a real CPU? (I dont have that much right now)

Hey i was wondering if the i7 920 is a good CPU for gaming . And can you answer if you think it would bottleneck a GTX 970?

yes it's good, and yes it bottleneck a 970 in many games.

If its that cheap and you can deal with it, sure, if you think you can deal with it. Don't expect too much from it anymore, my 1366 is coming up on 6 years old at this point, she's still going strong but i can feel it slowly dying. I'd advise you to jump ship and upgrade ASAP if you're gonna do that, or keep dat xeon, both are viable options

...keep the xeon then, it's basically the same cpu...

Yea if I knew this I would of said just keep the xeon. It has higher heat tolerance if I remember correctly. They both have the similar Overclockability since you can't increase the multiplyer.

How much would it cost to upgrade to a i5 then? (all together with a new motherboard)

I am in sweden but you can use dollars if it helps you out!

from what i can see, something like anywhere from $200+ if you choose your CPU and mobo combo decently, you might be able to find a deal locally to get the price knocked down some(?)

Okay :)

can you afford an i5-4460 or i5-4590 and Asrock H97M anniversary motherboard?

Something like this would allow a GTX 970 to spread it's wings in games:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($178.98 @ OutletPC)

Motherboard: ASRock H97M Anniversary Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($68.98 @ OutletPC)

Total: $247.96

Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available
