I'm going to have an HTPC and a gaming rig. My current understanding is to get a TN panel for gaming rigs as they have the best refresh rate, and get an IPS panel for an HTPC since a lot of media isn't above 60fps anyways and color accuracy is amazing. Is this correct?

Screen tearing is as I'm getting a 980 and it sure as hell can go above 60.

(cough) vsync (cough) that fixes it for me..

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

I have a 60Hz monitor. Its IPS and I don't have any screen tearing with my 980. Even if screen tearing becomes an issue, just use V sync and it will go away. Refresh rates over 75 Hz don't really make sense to me. The high refresh rates are nice, but really don't do anything special, which is why I'm waiting for an affordable, 4k, IPS, 120+ Hz monitor. It will probably never happen, but I'm waiting anyway.

getting a 120hz or 144hz tn monitor isnt gong to help screen tearing because its impossible to get a constant 120 or 144hz unless you use vsync...

in which case you could just use vsync with IPS

the point of 120Hz and 144Hz is for fast response time for competitive fps gaming

almost everyone on this forum prefers IPS though

So I'm getting the feeling I would rather have a lower fps IPS monitor and juet use gsync which won't be a problem with the 980. Alright can you reccomend a good IPS 24" 1080p+ monitor?

LG 29um67

LG 34um67

asus mg279q

acer xb270hu

acer xr341ck

Lots of IPS with freesync/gsync coming in the next month and on. First two 75hz. Last three have as fast response times as the fastest TNs + 144hz.

2015 is the year when TN becomes truly obsolete, defended only by the ignorant.

What about the BenQ GW2765HT 60Hz 27.0" Monitor? I now don't care about the size.
