I never really run anything if i'm running something completely stock. But for overclocking, i use a combination of monitoring programs, and stress testing programs. Here's some suggestions -

For monitoring, one of the following -

Core Temp

Real Temp

HW Monitor

Open Hardware Monitor

For stress testing -

Prime95

Aida64

LinX

Furmark

After passing such tests, the final thing to do is game on the rig. It'll show if it's 24/7 stable or not, after using it for a good amount of hours afterwards. For instance, i managed to get 1250mhz core overclock on my GPU, and passed about 4 hours of stress testing, but instantly ran into issues when trying to game.

Shot through the heart and you're to blame, 30fps and i'll pirate your game - Bon Jovi

Take me down to the console city where the games are blurry and the frames are thirty - Guns N' Roses

Arguing with religious people is like explaining to your mother that online games can't be paused...

Drivers would be the first thing. But for me stresstesting or benchmarking isn't in high priority. You can see from idle temps if cooler is seated right.

But for good software:

- OCCT has become my goto software for CPU stressing (changed from IBT and Prime95). Kombustor is for GPU (changed from Furmark).

- For benchmarks I use several. 3Dmark06 and latest. Cinebench, Novabench, ALLBenchmark.

- I also have few smaller tests. XS Bench (with RealTemp), Super Pi Mod 1M.

- Game benchmarks. Currently under construction because of them being old and GFWL shutting down. But I've used NFS:Shift and BFBC2.
