Right now I'm on a 120gb SSD and 1TB WD Blue from a LONG time ago, thinking about upgrading storage since I'm going to run out of space soon, and my system is no where near the fastest or the safest.

I'm thinking about doing 2x 250gb Samsung SSDs in RAID0 for the OS and a couple of the games I'm actively playing at the moment, and then 2x 2tb WB Blacks in RAID1 for everything else, as well as a weekly backup of the SSDs.

Is this a good way of doing it? How would you do it?

What program can be used to make a weekly backup? Would something like this need a RAID card, or would my Gigabyte Z97x ud3h be good enough?

Hi there @SimonWhite!

This storage plan sounds good to me, although I would prefer to setup a RAID array with 2x2TB WD Red drive since they're optimized to work in this kind of environment and have the specific build-in features for such usage like low operating temperature, 24/7 operational, NASware 3.0 etc. You can check them out here:

I am not sure if the motherboard could support multiple RAID arrays, so I personally would use a RAID controller.

Hope this helps.

Cheers! :)
