Graphic intensive games crash after about half an hour.

I need help in figuring out why graphic intensive games such as Far Cry 4 and Battlefield 4 (and many others) will crash on my system and I can play games like Diablo 3 for hours.

My Specs are -

  • AMD FX-8350 cooled with Cooler Master Seidon 120v
  • 16GB HyperX Ram
  • Asus Radeon R9 290 cooled with Corsair H90
  • Kingston 120gb SSD
  • Seagate 2tb Desktop HDD
  • Asus M5a97 R2.0 Evo motherboard
  • 1080p Monitor

As far as I can see, using afterburner in game, I can get 60fps on max settings and temps never go over 60 Degrees C on my graphics card. After about 20 minutes to half an hour it'll just come up with "(game) has stopped working".

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

does the game crashes to desktop? or completely crashes the computer and shut down? is you cpu overclocked? might be unstable...

may your framerates be high and your temperatures be low. #pcmr

What sort of board-cooling does that 290 have. You replaced the fan with an AIO, which means the VRM's and ramchips aren't cooled...

It has a fan on the VRM's

My guess is that the VRM's or Vram are overheating.

Can you upload a picture?

Sure,  this is the underside of my gpu

Still seeing plenty of mosfets not covered, nor are the ramchips. You need to put a shroud on it to get the air distributed over the board...

Put the original cooler back, test it again.

The Vram doesnt have any cooling, Thats what i think is the problem.

My advice is to underclock the Vram and see if the same thing happens again.
