Hey guys

I bought a new system that I will hopefully receive all the components of next week. Sadly, I derped and bought a DSP Windows and not the retail version. Can anyone tell me how I can perform a clean install on my pc with a DSP version of Windows? Should I build the rig, launch with the unformatted drive and then follow the Windows upgrade steps from there?

Thanks in advance

DSP basically means OEM, from http://www.dirtcheapsoftware.com/faq.html

What is DSP software?

DSP means “Delivery Service Partner.” It is a version of OEM software used by smaller computer manufacturers and system builders.

What is the difference between OEM and DSP software?

The software in both OEM versions and DSP versions is the same. OEM software normally has the hardware manufacturer’s name, such as Dell or Sony, printed on the manual and license. DSP software, however, has NO manufacturer’s name stamped on the manual or printed on the license. DSP versions usually just say “OEM.” Basically, DSP is a more generic packaging of an OEM product that is sold to smaller system builders who do not qualify for larger volume discounts and custom printing on their software.

Please note that OEM and DSP non-operating system software (such as Microsoft Office, Works Suite, WordPerfect, etc.) cannot be installed over a previous version as an Upgrade.

Sig under construction.

Install it just like normal, the only downside is that you won't be able to use the key again (you might want to image your pc after installing it, just in case).

That's what I'm worried about. To my knowledge the DSP version does not come with a DVD, so I can't simply format and then try to install, I need to upgrade from my current version. Stop me if I'm wrong :)

So I'm thinking, I build the new rig, start as is. My current Windows will launch, then I load the Windows upgrade assistant and enter the code they give me.

Just insert the DVD and boot your rig. It's still a full-featured copy of Windows, just some licencing differences.

No. It does come with a DVD. FPP (full packaged product) does not.

However, I suggest that you do a clean install. Prevents any problems that might be caused by the upgrade.
