Ok.  So i have decided to go for either the Asus Strix or the MSI Gaming Gtx 970. I want to know if there is any real difference between the cards such as power consumption (because i'm a keen overclocker) and quality.

Thanks.

If you want OC'Ability then go with a G1 Gaming from Gigabyte. I beleive they cherry pick their chips and they have great cooling as well.

I really want to keep the price under £285 if possible.

Out of the 2? The MSI card.

I agree with you.

While the 8-pin is seen as a limitation, I am still able to get 1530MHz/+37mV out of my Strix just fine. Nothing significant on memory, but I think it's down more to binning.

I'd still buy Strix, it's damn silent even at load. Both are good cards though.

If you have interest in overclocking, don't go get a Strix 970 or a MSI Gaming 970... They have a single 8pin, and I was basically maxing out the 8pin just to get a high score in Valley. Plus, Asus doesn't sell them with Samsung memory anymore like mine came with, it comes with Hynix, that is stable like 10MHz past stock... Get a G1 Gaming if you have interest in overclocking please. :)

Its a few pounds over your budget. But it simply is the best 970 when it comes to performance and overclockability.

The Msi one has a 8pin and a 6pin. The same as the G1.

Asus Strix for a little OC, but silent. Gigabyte for a bad ass OC, but a bit louder in idle.

But with a custom BIOS (which is simple to do) you can easily make the Gigabyte a lot quieter at idle

Oh, why didn't I know that before getting my Strix  <_<
