Laptops with or without optical drives?

Hey Linus I was wondering if you could make a video on whether laptops should or shouldn't have optical drives please. There seems to be some debate about it.

It's more based for on needs.

 

Some people (including me) don't use an optical drive on their desktops either because they have no use for it.

I originally built my PC without an optical drive, but I was forced to go out and get one in order to install drivers etc, nowadays everything can be imported via thumbdrives and optical drives on laptops and PC's are going extinct; it's really just self opinionated.

I prefer with in case for troubleshooting but without can make your pc thinner.

I rather have one and rarely need it than don't have one and need it someday, but that's just me. I wouldn't mind killing the ODD for better cooling space however.

ODDs have become outdated and are pretty much unnecessary because everything can be transferred via the cloud or through a usb drive. Another disadvantage of an ODD is the noise that it makes and the rather slow transfer speeds as well (compared to usb).
