Firs off, did I do the caps right? second, what sort of expansion card do I need to get midi(MiDi? MIDI?) output/input?

Just a guy who peaked at building back in the days of the GTX 980. If you see me here, assume i have technical knowledge akin to a committed hobbyist builder back then. If something's changed, you'll need to tell me(nicely plz). I'm probably asking for help with the modern build scene since I have no clue what's going on.

  1. MIDI (/ˈmɪdi/; short for Musical Instrument Digital Interface) is a technical standard that describes a protocol, digital interface and connectors and allows a wide variety of electronic musical instruments, computers and other related devices to connect and communicate with one another.

Are you a musical guy?

Best way I can think of to describe it is, while a digital audio recording is the digital representative of the real sound recording, a midi file would be more like a music partiture sheets. It just contains instructions of 'play this instrument in this sequence, that one in that sequence, etc'. That's why midi files are incredibly small compared to digital recordings, because they just contain instructions.

Using that analogy above, say you go to an orchestra, and record them playing a song. You can bring the recording anywhere and it will sound the same. However, if you obtain the partiture sheets used, and bring it to another orchestra, it can and will sound different, because it's interpreted and played differently.

Well, most probably you already know about this, just thought I'd put it here for the others.

To play midi, you don't need anything. Windows got their own midi wavemapper to interpret midi files. To record midi, something like playing an electone keyboard and recording the midi into a PC, you'd need a midi interface.

Can you recommend a cheap, basic midi interface that I can use for super basic stuff? Mostly interested for things like MuseScore and Note Block Studio.
