Hey guys! So, my system died recently (an old notebook) so now I'm looking to build a new one but I don't have that much money right now.

While I was looking for parts online, I found this really cheap used r9 280X... At an equivalent of $400. I know, you must be thinking "How the hell ist that cheap?" Well, a new one is around $600 in here :P. So that's one of my questions: should I thake the chance on it or should I go for a new 270x instead)

Now, the next issue is the cpu... The GPU blows most of my budget, so I've been thinking about getting a Pentium G3220 (I know a G3258 would be better, but there's none of them here lol) but I guess it would probably throttle the 280 to hell. Since I will upgrade the cpu (and psu, btw) to an i5 or something, I don't care that much as long as it gets around 30 fps in 1080. Can I get that or will I have to get a better CPU? Keep in mind if I go with an APU or FX 6300 ($300 and $320 respectively) I'd have to go for an r7 or 750ti to maybe get into the budget...

So, thanks for taking the time to read my ramblings. Have a nice day! :P

I would be good if you can give us some budget limit :3? Also you should not go with dual core and a 280x, as you can clearly see in Scrapyard War, Like with a 290 lose completely to Linus there. so I think better a 6300 and a 270 or something like that.

Yeah, I know it would throttle a lot (I said it in the post even) but I was wondering if I should just buy the "cheap" used 280x for when I upgrade the CPU. Wich is why I'm even thinking of going for that one. If I go with a 6300 I'd have to cut my GPU budget for an r7 or 750-ish ground. Therefore, needing to upgrade twice later. All of this Isaid in the post earlier... By the way, they tested their systems on ultra in Scrapyard Wars. I know I'm using a dual core, so there's no way I would play in Ultra lol I'm aiming fo low-mid. Hell, even 720p. I'm thinking this for later, not for right now. I thought I made all of this clear earlier, but I guess I didn't lol.

Also, my own budget is around 600 (I still need to sell some stuff, so I don't know exactly) and I don't want to ask my parents for more than 200, so around 800 in total. But this doesn't matter since pricing and product availabilility is so different.

And for the user asking where I'm from (I don't know how to multi-quote on the mobile thingy) I'm from Argentina... Hi! :P

The thing is, CPU should be the one that you absolutely must not upgrade unless you have no other choice, because upgrade CPU mean upgrade Mobo as well, and also you will need to reinstall OS and every driver related. It's the most annoying upgrade for a PC. If you plan to upgrade later then you better just get a good CPU now and make upgrade on GPU, it's much easier to do that.

Also 800 USD is a pretty decent budget. Buying completely new and this is already what you could get at 600USD

CPU: AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor  ($136.75 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-D3P ATX AM3+/AM3 Motherboard  ($76.95 @ OutletPC)
Memory: G.Skill Sniper 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($63.99 @ NCIX US)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 280 3GB DUAL-X Video Card  ($159.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Aerocool Strike-X One ATX Mid Tower Case  ($52.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $590.55
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Maybe the price in Argentina is different, but either way try to not upgrade the CPU if you can help it, I.E. buy a good CPU now, dont settle for bad CPU

Well, that's the thing. you would think 900 US$ (now that I think about it, I miscalculated the amount in US$) would be quite a nice budget. Let me break you down the pricing for the whole system and why I'm trying to just upgrade the CPU instead of the GPU:

CPU: AMD FX 6300 = $182

MoBo: Asus M5a97 R2.0 = $193

Memory: Kingston HyperX (1 x 4GB) DDR3 1866 = $75 (strangely it's one of the cheapest)

HDD: WD Blue 1TB = $90

GPU: Sapphire R7 260X 2GB = $244

Case + PSU: Generic Sentey case combo = $152 (the cheapest 80+ PSU I could find was a Seasonic 520w... at $177)

Total = $936

As you can see, pricing is really different down here. This would probably have a similar performance to the Pentium with a beefier GPU, but it would be more expensive in the long run, but not that much. Now that I actually think about it, it would be kind of the same either way lol. I guess I'll go with the AMD, then.

it would be easier for us to suggest a build for you if you told us where you lived. This sort of pricing is also common in my country so I look at some of my local web stores (souq.com is sort of an Amazon but for my country). This is also a suggestion for you :)

Amazon also delivers internationally so see if your country is listed on their international shipping list. I'd recommend shionly getting lightweight components like storage, CPU and GPU from here as they charge around $2.49/lb.

Sure, I'd love to order it on amazon or something. But first off, theres a 35% fee on the stuff you buy outside of the country. That would still be cheaper, but there's also a 50% fee on customs... And that's if they even let it through. There's quite a bit held there, mainly electronics. But I don't know, maybe I should try at least.

EDIT: So, I finally bought an FX 6300 and an Asus M5a97 r2.0. After looking for a while, I found a 80 Bronze (http://www.seasonic.com/pdf/datasheet/NEW/Retail/SS-350-400ES%20Active%20PFC.pdf.pdf), but it's only 400W. That should be barely enough for some r7 GPU, right? It won't be permanent anyway, since I plan to upgrade most of the stuff along the way.
