Noob in crossfire :)

Go to solution Solved by bossdre,

My last rig got 2x R9  280x and a 4670k on a seasonic 750w m12ii evo. It worked out for mee just fine, but all on stock settings.

As for you PSU, it really depends on the quality. If it's a quality PSU, then you might get away with since your only using an i3.

About the processor, you might experience a little bit of bottleneck but if your only gaming on a 1080p display, the effect should be insignificant because it destroys every game (last 2014 that has support for cfx)that I play  it on.

700w is fine for 2 280xs, yes.

Doesn't need to be the same brand, but speeds will be limited to the lower clock speed (both clock and RAM memory speed).

CPU: Depends. Referring to Intel or AMD? Most people will probably say somewhere in the i5-Haswell line.

Yes, it would be worth it.

700W is fine if you're not overclocking.

No, it doesn't need to be the same brand. AMD is very flexible when it comes to Xfire

Cpu? Anything that preforms around FX 8320 range is pretty good. 6300 Might be a slight bottleneck.

Hi i want to know is it worth to crossfire a 280X

I can get 7970 for 120$ from a trusted friend

Now my question is, will 700W be good for two 280X

And does it need to be same brand to crossfire.

EDIT: and what CPU will i need?.

700W is just a bit short - it might work depending on the quality of the PSU but it's not 100% safe. 850-1000W is what you should have with a 280X CF setup.

Asrock 890GX Extreme 3 - AMD Phenom II X4 955 @3.50GHz - Arctic Cooling Freezer XTREME Rev.2 - 4GB Kingston HyperX - AMD Radeon HD7850 - Kingston V300 240GB - Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB - Chieftec APS-750 - Cooler Master HAF912 PLUS

Would I3 4130 be good?

I love free stuff.

yes i know :) i can get new one.

Something like

MB LGA1150 B85 ASUS B85-PLUS

Not really a good motherboard either because while it does have two PCI lanes, when two are in use, one runs in 8x, while the other runs in 4x.  This is not ideal.

You should stick with your current i3 + R9 280.  There is no real reason to upgrade, you should be better excellent performance in your games at 1080p with that setup.

In order to go Xfire, you would have to spend more money on a motherboard, + the GPU + a better CPU just to handle Xfire.  Its a costly endeavor, and unless you are truly unsatisfied with your current performance, there is no reason to upgrade.

Ahh even better. That GPU and CPU is a really nice match.

I don't own Far Cry 3, I do own Borderlands 2?  Battlefield 4, CoD:AW?

I never played FarCry series, I will probably buy FC4 in 6-12 months when the price drops to like $10-$20.  Thats what I love about PC gaming, don't buy the game when it is brand new, wait a few months or a year, all of the bugs *should* be fixed, and it is a heck of a lot cheaper than buying it when it is first released.

I bought BF4 for $20, and got Borderlands 2 for only $5.  Both are great games and I play them weekly.

I'm having a lot of fun with a free game called Nosgoth right now.  Its on Steam.

Also League of Legends, I play that a lot.  and Hearthstone
