My First Future Build

So, let me start off by saying that I am not the most computer technical person in the world and that this is my first attempt at building a computer. I was referred to pcpartpicker.com by a friend who helped me put together my future build. I have always been a console gamer. Windows 95 and Windows 2000 (Yes I know not consoles, but those are the computers I remember.)  PS2, Xbox 360, PS3.    My grandma still has the Windows 95 computer, I think, LOL.

For right now my build is on-hold because I am in the middle of buying my first house and that house is worth more than a computer to me right now. Closing is on April 3rd and I am scared as hell/excited.This is a big step for me.  After things settle down and I have a budget worked out, I will continue ordering parts on this build. Right now the only thing I have is Corsair C70 Vengence Case (White). My budget would be around $750.00 I do need a monitor, keyboard and mouse. I also want experiment with overclocking on this build.

My build is purely for gaming along with web-browsing and Microsoft Office stuff. I do want to try writing code and know a little to do just that.Um, sorry to give you my life story on here, but it needed to happen I guess. Hopefully y'all can help me out with things that I need to switch around when I do order the parts. It may not happen until May. Who knows what will be out by then?

Thank you very much in advance.

Below is what I have so far.

Monitor: Asus VS248H-P 24.0" Monitor  ($169.99 @ Amazon)

I would look for a cheaper HDD and put more towards the GPU. Also, a platinum PSU isn't exactly necessary. Even bronze is just fine in terms of efficiency. As for a keyboard, mouse, and monitor, I would look into mechanical keyboards, a preferable mouse, and the monitor you chose is probably fine. Take a look at the cooler master storm quick fire or something. Its pretty cheap for mechanical keyboard. For a mouse, just find a simple on the suites the games you are looking to play, or has a bunch of buttons for you to use for whatever. Mouse choice is mostly up to personal preference.

I'd probably get a better gpu. Now, the 660 is still pretty good, but is growing out of date, especially since you aren't in a third world country. Assuming of course, the location on your profile is current. If you lived in Malaysia or Guam them yea, a 660 might be all you can get, but here in the states there are tons of far, far better options (280x, 290, 770,)

I`m sorry to say, but you won't be doing any OC with that combination of Mobo and CPU. In fact, at this price point, I wouldn't aim at it.

Here, this is my suggestion. You won't OC with it either, but it's the best bang for the buck oyu can get.

If you have abit more to spend, I'd say upgrade the CPU to a 8320 would be good too. Else this would be the best I think I could do at this price :P

An Intel CPU with an AMD Graphics Card? I didn't know that would work, then again maybe I did know it would work in the back of my mind. Hmm...

Is it possible to overclock this at all? I've only done research on the Intel side it seems. AMD seems to have lots of problems, but is the best bang for your buck. Intel is more "speed" I guess ( I know that's not the right term for it, but the word escapes me for the moment.)  and is good deal better as far as stability with a price tag.   I know its a all to one's preference.

You can overclock the FX 6300 quite ok, that's the 1st reason why I get an after market cooler for it (the other being AMD's stock fans always drive me crazy with the noise). At stock the 4440 would be a little little bit faster than this, but at this range it doesnt matter much, both of them wont bottleneck the 290 anyway. As for preference, I actually prefer Intel and Nvidia more, but at low budget, I'd say I can see the charm of AMD build :3

How do I know the difference between an AMD Motherboard and an Intel Motherboard? Megazero, I really think I am going to go with this build. I may get the FX-8350 CPU, but I don't know just yet. Should I wait for AMD to come out with the R9-300 series GPU's or just go with a R9-290/GTX 970?

Edit: Also, how do I know a Motherboard is compatible with Overclocking? I assume just go to the Manufacturer's website and look up the specs. I've never done overclocking so this might be fun or I might fry a $750.00 build. -facepalm- I'll keep everyone updated when I have more than just the case.

I just LOL'D to myself. How do you put pictures up on the computer? Take picture with phone/camera, plug in USB wire, upload picture from camera, store to picture folder, come to this site and attach file to post.  Pray that it works.

I assume that is the process. Everything I am doing is a learning experience, so just be patient with me.

Thank you for any advice that everyone has given me.

That's easy, just watch the socked of the mobo. If it is LGA (insert number), then it is intel. If not, it's AMD. Using partpicker, you can also enable filters for that.

As for waiting.... well, 3xx is possibly, cuz it got delayed coming in June. If you think you'll be waiting until then, I suppose... wait. If not, the 290(x) is still killer nowadays

Please quote me next time you want me to answer or I wont notice it.

The different between them is the socket. For Intel usually you have something like LGA1155 or LGA something depend on the generation of the chip it support (a mobo support i5 first gen like i5 760 will not support i5 4690k 4th gen). For AMD it's like AM3+ or similar. The easiest way for you to check is go to PcPartPicker, choose your CPU first, and when you choose the mobo PCPartPicker should already sort out all the mobo that dont fit your CPU. You can also see which socket is fit with your CPU this way. FX 8350 and 8320 use the same socket though

For the GPU... not really. It will be faster than 290 for sure, but I doubt it will be THAT much faster. Just get a 970. 290 is too hot + energy consuming.

I'm not sure about Overclock checking on AMD side, I know the FX 8350 or 8320 can overclock but for the mobo... you might need to google or see review of the mobo for it.

So, two things:   If I stick with this build can I replace the CPU Cooler with a AIO Liquid Cooler like the Corsair Hydro Series H60 and still be able to run the computer at a decent temperature and what do you guys think of me doing that? Good idea, bad idea, stick with the Cooler Master Hyper 212? I have the Reg Pro Cleaner virus/malware/spam/idk, and I have done everything I can think of to get rid of it. It still won't go away. I'm thinking of taking it to Best Buy/Office Depot and having them look at it. It is beyond me right now.   I have run Avira Anti-virus/McAfee and Malware-bytes on my laptop. It doesn't help really. Any advice would be appreciated or direction of what to do/where to go?
