This might sound weird, I've been going my "box of tech stuff" and I have found 2x 16GB EEC ram. The question is: if Asus decides update the BIOS for any of their desktop motherboards will ECC work? Or jjust have to get a workstation motherboard?

ECC RAM will not work on normal desktops and vice versa

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

It depends on the CPU that you have. Most CPUs, aside from Xeons and a select few, dont support ECC memory.

My arsenal: i7-9700k Gaming Rig, an iPhone, and Stupidity.

wont work for intel sorry
amd support ECC across the board which given their architecture is unsurprising.
dont think you can use ecc in non ecc boards (last time i checked) which is a big bummer.

It depends on the CPU that you have. Most CPUs, aside from Xeons and a select few, dont support ECC memory.

If I swap my CPU for a xeon, will it work?
