I am back yet again with another thread :P

I am modding a PowerMac G5 case, and I need a cheap system to fit in there. I have the option of a G3258 or an i7 920. Which CPU would be better? I don't plan on upgrading this build anytime soon but does the newer platform weigh the Pentium over the i7? This won't be used too much for gaming, just a "screwing around, maybe some storage" kind of build.

Spoiler

i5 4670k, GTX 970, 12GB 1600, 120GB SSD, 240GB SDD, 1TB HDD, CM Storm Quickfire TK, G502, VG248QE, ATH M40x, Fractal R4

Spoiler

i5 4278U, Intel Iris Graphics, 8GB 1600, 128GB SSD, 2560x1600 IPS display, Mid-2014 Model

Spoiler

All the parts are here, just need to get customized cords to connect the motherboard to the front panel.

Will you use heavily multithreaded applications on this computer?

If yes, i7 920

If no, G3258

overall the i7-920 is a much more capable chip...unless all you do is playing old tech mmo's and RTS games.

i7-920 as long as you get an X58 board that has at least 2 SATA III ports for SSD's...If you don't care about SSD's than any board would do.

Only reason to get the G3258 over an i7 is for the Z97 platform if you planned on upgrading to Haswell/Broadwell i5/i7 at some point in the future.
