I am going to do linus' 1500 build, but i am only building the desktop and now the prices are cheaper. So it will be 1000 dollars (USD). I have a few questions about the build though. In the vid Linus connected the GPU to the motherboard and plugged a chord in. Do I need to plug that in too? Also he said there were some things like wiring adapters that he needed to use. Do the adapters come with the build? Wiring has been a huge question to me. Does the motherboard clearly label the places to wire the PSU? Also connected to the case were a few wires in it. Did Linus connect them too? I am going to get a 800 W PSU because i will later upgrade my build. Will it damage my computer to get a PSU that is 100 W higher than needed? IF THERE ARE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS IN THE FUTURE, I WILL UPDATE THIS POST.

I will also use some better things from the original build. I will only name the components that I will use that is not in the vid.

MSI GTX 970

Corsair SP High Performance fans

Corsair GS 800

CM Storm Scout II Advanced (Linus used the non advanced version)

I will not use an SSD

If in doubt, check the motherboard manual it will have all of the little things on there like the Front panel connectors and different USB stuff so you will know where to plug it in because it is labeled with diagrams and stuff. But what @Hunter.Boy said, I think that watching other peoples build videos is a good way to get a grip on the wiring.

You should look up some full build walkthroughs on yt. A lot of these questions will be answered.

Thanks I will, but  they may not use the same components as me. This is my first build and I just dont want to mess it up. But thanks for the help.

The process is the same for any recent parts.

No problem! A lot of that is just general though. The wiring really doesn't vary between different components.

Do you have a local techie or friend in the know you can call in to supervise the build? I do that quite often for people wanting to get into building their own but who don't have the experience yet to solo it. Be there on site, answer questions, help explain the process while YOU actually build it. If they're a friend they may be happy trading you that hour or two for a quick lunch.

Yeah, I would suggest the same as above; have someone supervise you while you do this build. We all had to start from somewhere, though I guess you can be lucky with all the Youtube vids and forums for support out these days. You should be fine as long as you take your time and not rush things.

Go to online PC stores ie. Newegg, or where ever you are located. Ask them what would they recomend for a 1k build. Gather several prices/products and work around this. For $1000 you should be able to find what you are after. Just make sure you mention what you want the machine to do.. Games, Work....

As for your build, I would suggest you invest in a SSD personally as loading times will reduce for multiple applications and make things easier. This is your call..

This is what I gathered for $1500 (US) from an Australian store. You work with what is available and where you are located, as prices could be cheaper. :)

1. CM Storm Scout II Advanced (Linus used the non advanced version)- $129.00 ( http://www.mwave.com.au/product/cooler-master-cm-storm-scout-2-black-case-ab47929?gclid=Cj0KEQiA99qnBRDnrYCkt4ClzZABEiQAvqPaLKClTNp1323eawwGYd9Gw3HzaKd1H9vkFDXLSAiIzCYaAnnM8P8HAQ)

2. Thermaltake Smart Power 750W 80 Plus Bronze - $115.00 (http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15_535&products_id=22745 )

3. MSI GeForce GTX 970 Gaming 4GB - $519.00 ( http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=193_1692&products_id=29086)

4. MSI Z97 Gaming 5 Motherboard- $239.00 (http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=138_1491&products_id=27522)

5. Intel Core i5 4690K - $324.00 (http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=187_1490)

6. Corsair Vengeance Pro CMY16GX3M2A1866C9R 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3- $239.00 (http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=186_538_913&products_id=23770

7. Samsung 840 EVO Series 250GB SSD - $159.00 ( http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=210_902_1370&products_id=24742 )

8. Raijintek Triton AIO Liquid CPU Cooler Red - $119.00 (http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=207_23&products_id=30029 )

Total: $1843 Australian = $1440.00 US

This took me maybe 10min to look around, if you know what you are shopping for it is pretty easy, just get the best deal out there. ;)
