It's safe if you're trying to hide something from your friends, boss, etc.

Don't try and hide from hackers or government agencies with it though, it's not secure enough. (not much actually is.)

if you are protecting your midget porn from you mom or dad then it's really safe but if your protecting it from hackers then  hell no

Out of curiosity, why do you think it isn't "really" safe? So far the audit didn't bring up any backdoors and the only shady thing, if you want to call it that, was the unforseen resignation of the developers. (More information here)

So if you download your binary from a secure source and get v7.1a I see nothing wrong with Truecrypt, but maybe I missed some important announcements.

not in the software , but everything with a password is weak to good old brute force attack we can see it in AES ,MD5 ,,,,, etc  you can achieve amazing speeds and it won't take long to find that your password is your birthday ,and if a hacker went through the trouble of hacking your computer his not going to stop because of some encrypted file

four R9 290X will cost you 1.399.96 $ and sure it will take you long time to fine the passphrase but it's possible and most of us don't us the best password that we can create most of us use stupid and short and easy to remember password
