Crossfire G5 build

mrPalmtreeguy

Hello everyone!

In about a week I will be building my first crossfire pc in an old powermac G5 case, i'll need to mod it ofcourse but that should be fun right?

The system specs are:

Cpu: Intel core i5 2500k

Gpu: 2x Amd r9 280x windforce from gigabyte

Ram: 8gb Kingston hyperx (2×4gb)

Mobo: asus p8z68-v pro gen3

Psu: Corsair tx 850W

Cpu cooling: gelid tranquillo rev 2

Storage: 1t seagate baracuda 7200rpm

Case: powermac G5

Maybe i get the chance to work on the case today otherwise i'll start at the end of the week when i'll be ordering my parts.

Any thoughts on wich colour and a name maybe?

yo

Awesome! I really love the older Mac Pro/G5 design!

Here are two suggestions if you haven't already ordered the parts. They are super nit-picky and you totally don't have to do them.

The PSU: The TX series is an older, louder, slightly less efficient PSU.

         Recommendations:

             - EVGA SuperNova 850 (there are 3 models G2 (80+ Gold), B2 (80+ Bronze, same as TX), and S (A shorter PSU, 80+ Gold, I  recommend for compatibility)

             - Silverstone Strider Gold S 850

The Cooler: The tranquilo is good, but the Noctuas (if you can stand the color) are better, if you can afford it, get a NH-U12S, NH-U9S. You could also buy a NF-F12 for the tranquilo.

Remember, don't feel pressured, this is a great build already!

Happy to see where this goes!  :D

Oh man when it rains it pours!

I'm currently in the process of modding one, and so are a few others.

Good luck man!

Overall progress of today (i'll be adding these every day until the build is done)

I found a dremmel and i tested it and it works just fine :D maybe i need to buy some more of those dish thingies because they don't last verry long.

I also made a deal for my case fans, 2 120mm, 4 140mm and 2 140mm with purple leds from the corsair af series for just 30 euro's! That is around 34 dollars!

Getting pretty soaked about this build, tomorow i'll be deciding what coloursceme i'm going to use and im picking up those fans :D

Yeah Noctua are a world apart dude. When starting my rig a couple of mine fart and take a minute or so before they settle down and shut up. Kinda make a fuzzy buzzing sound.

I would be alarmed but I've heard it before on 50 pence fans from China when the bearings go. Poor bloody show for Corsair.

I'd send them back but tbh? as soon as I took one out of the package and handled it I knew they wouldn't last long. They weigh nothing, are thin and flimsy and are in no shape or form worth what the asking price denotes.

No doubt at some point when I can be bothered with all the hassle I'll pull the lot and put something decent in. Something actually decent that explains its price a bit better than this rubbish.

Still, 9 fans for less than 40 bucks is pretty nice.

Also when you consider that they are a half of that a piece new in the stores.

And when i tested them they were more quiet than my current case fans and they move much more air so i'm pretty happy with my purchase :D

Yeah i know right haha i'll probably need to go up at least 300 euro's, thats around 335 dollars i believe, if I find something to make some money of because i don't have enough right now xD.

Maybe i'll buy all the part of my pc except the graphics cards and save up a little more and then buy the two 290's.

Or maybe i can find some better deals on the other components like the mobo or ram...

And if all those options fail i'll still have a deal with 2 280x's for 280 bucks which isn't to shabby.

I will start modding the mac tomorrow so that should be fun.

Yea, the shade/finish quality looks very similar to something i saw here not long ago. Might just be coincidence tho
