How does the 970 do at 1440p?

Go to solution Solved by Brawhammer,

Aaaargh. Well fuck that, next payday I may just throw another 350$ at it so I can catch all the fpses(FPSs?, FPS-eye?)

I assume the low settings are because of the GPU, correct?

The game just runs pretty bad.

Thinking of buying a BenQ GW2765HT monitor, just wondering if a 970 could push 1440p ultra 60fps on most/all games or if I should go with a 980?

Depends fully on the game. Can you at least name one title and I can tell you?

Arma 2/3, Battlefield 4/Hard line, Crysis 3, Pretty much most new games.

The performance difference between the two cards isn't dramatic, unless the game uses between 3.5GB and 4GB of VRAM. Otherwise, the GTX 980 is kind of like GTX 970, just up one notch on the same engine.

Some games already require beyond 3.5GB or 4GB VRAM at their highest settings, but they're really the highest settings. I would say that the card still performs alright, but with some games you can expect less than a smooth 60.

But why ask us, when you can just look at the benchmarks http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1355?vs=1351

Could anyone find results for Arma 3 at 1440p? I think I'm going to be sinking a lot of my time into it on the overpoch mod. It'll become my new mi ecraft, even though I'll still be playing Minecraft.

I should be pretty good with it? Especially with a solid 1500mhz overclock? If not I could always just use my next paycheck to buy myself another 970. :)

Arma 2/3, Battlefield 4/Hard line, Crysis 3, Pretty much most new games.

Arma2-3 No, I don't even get 60fps on Arma 3 on medium settings 1080p.

Battlefield 4. Maybe... I get around 70FPS, Might be 50-60fps. Some options turned down will deffos result in 60fps constant+

Crysis 3, Probs not. It's a very intensive game.

You are looking at maybes. Not on ultra settings maybe some settings turned down to get 60fps constant.

Are you sure that's not your CPU? If not then that's disappointing. I'm going to be using a 4790k, I know arms is pretty CPU intensive.

Should be

Though Arma, Crysis etc you might have to have a few settings turned off such as AA or a few things on medium or high to get it consistant

but most other games will be fine

OK, well, thanks for saving me 350$ (temporarily, heh heh)

I guess I'll just turn down the settings until (maybe) the devs do something about it, or I forget about it. Thank you for your help good sir.

Unfortunately, I don't play Arma 3. But my 970 runs my screen at 2560 x 1600 without issue. I play Skyrim sometimes with no problems encountered.

Do you guys turn off AA to get the smooth 60 FPS? I get like 20 - 40 FPS in BF4 @1440p Ultra settings when AA is turned on. If you get 60 FPS without even turning down AA, then there must be something wrong with my card.

System:

Intel Core i5 4690k @ 3.5Ghz, MSI z97 PC Mate, Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 gaming, 4x2 Kingston HyperX blu 1600Mhz, 1 Tb Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm, Corsair CX600M PSU, Corsair AF120 Performance edition 3x, Xigmatek Stock fans 3x, Xigmatek Mach PC Case, Asus VX239H 1080p IPS LED 23".

yes I have AA turned either down or off, its normally the first thing I turn off

actually when playing BF4 I have everytihng on low except mesh and textures which I have on Ultra and I have 2x AA on

How many FPS do you get in BF4 with AA maxed out and in Ultra settings @ 1080p? I get like 70 FPS max and with lots of 40+ FPS drops. I even experienced 20 FPS drops but it's rare. That should be fine with me, but I only play single player, so I figured that this might not be normal. By the way, I also get 82 degrees celcius in Far Cry 4. I have a GTX 970 G1 gaming from gigabyte. I returned it to get a replacement for the same model, so did I just return a perfectly normal card just because I was expecting too much from it? that was my first high end card.

Intel Core i5 4690k @ 3.5Ghz, MSI z97 PC Mate, Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 gaming, 4x2 Kingston HyperX blu 1600Mhz, 1 Tb Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm, Corsair CX600M PSU, Corsair AF120 Performance edition 3x, Xigmatek Stock fans 3x, Xigmatek Mach PC Case, Asus VX239H 1080p IPS LED 23".

Wow eh.

I'm usually 70-50 Stable at 70-60. Never drops below that..

My Temps stay around 50-60, Fan usually never goes on cause it doesn't need to.

I guess I'll have to turn down AA in BF4 once I get my replacement. I'm a bit disappointed because the people in this forum said that it would run in 1440p with everything maxed out. I'm probably just expecting too much though. :D

no, there is NO card that can, but it will do a good job at 1440p, and it will cream 1080p

Depending on the in-game location, I get 60 to 300fps. But generally it's mostly between 100 to 120 fps. 3770 @ 4.2ghz.
