Ok a 850 is what I'm going for any psu recommendations

EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2 or GS. If you're in the US, just wait for a sale. They come around fairly regularly and drop the price down to between $80-90.

I know the it says 750w min but part picker says it uses less than 600w can it work

Yes. You can look at benchmarks and they'll show how much power the cards will draw.

Possibly. depends on the specs of the rest of your system.  I wouldn't risk it though.

2 way 980's pull about 480W with some cards making it up 550W.

 

So go higher to be safe with your CPU wattage.

Take it from the guy who is actually running the cards in a 2 way and sometimes 3 way setup.

Probably but you shouldn't test your luck try 750w but I would do something like 850w

If you're planning on overclocking / over-volting you might want a little more.

It should be OK but if you have enough money to get 2 980s I think that getting 750W or 850W PSU would be good idea.
