my kid is looking for mods for minecraft, but i heard some ofthem are either viruses or contain viruses. i found an app through my logitech g700 mouse installer for a program called curse but it only does skins and servers which isnt what hes looking for. i know nothing about minecraft nor even care for the game so i have no clue what he is looking for.

There are thousands and I mean thousands of guides on YouTube so I suggest looking at those. The basic ones I recommend:

  • ModLoader - a must
  • OptiFine
  • TooManyItem's
  • Zombie's Flying Mod

If he wants a more interesting thing, download Tekkit - it's a modded version of Minecraft that includes a new energy system, auto mining etc. I would only download the mods from the Minecraft Forums or Planet Minecraft.

Most mods doesn't contain viruses if you download them from the minecraftforums.com so don't be afraid of that.

And mods I prefer (witch require serious understanding of modding)

Minecraft forge;

Invtweaks;

Optifine (must);

Damage splash indicators;

Voxel minimap;

camara studio mod;

Shaders mod;

Not enough items (require Code core chicken);

sound mod;

Animated player mod.

And, most of the mods that are being made by now don't use modloader anymore, but minecraft forge. It is way easier to install mods and to use them.
