Hi,

I've been looking for a new motherboard from Asus but I get kinda confused by all these "Ps", "Cs" and whatever letter they put at the end of the name.

I have already googled, afaik now it describes what features the specific board has but I couldn't find anything up to date (Z97).

Can anyone provide an explanation on how they name their boards?

Thanks in advance!

Don't know their exact naming scheme but here's the LD.

ROG Maximus seiries = "gaming features" and extras most people don't really need, you pay a premium for them, gaming color scheme.

Z97-A = entry level.

Z97-WS = premium components and extensive stress testing for extra reliability in workstations.

Z97-Deluxe and Pro(wifi) = loaded with features, plus wifi card, more serious looking (no gaming color scheme), Deluxe also has an extra heatsink.

Z97-C/K/P = budget motherboards.

Ultimately you need to compare the motherboards and take then one that has all the features you need.

You can put the motherboards side by side on the Asus website, so you could go there. :)

Or tell us your budget and feature needs and well tell you which one fits best.

yea i was on there, only things missing is the price.

budget would be about 150-180€, only thing that really is required are very stable vrms, stuff like fan headers or the layout is unimportant

I see, well 4 motherboards come to mind.

The Z97-A which is about 147. It's an all around solid motherboard for not a lot.

The Z97-PRO GAMER (assuming that you live in Europe where this motherboard is available) it's pretty much the Z97-A with a better looking color scheme and a vertically oriented 8-pin CPU power. Also €140-150

ROG Maximus Z97 Ranger VII (€167) or Hero VII (provided you can find this one for €180)

The Ranger or Hero are nice if you like the looks and are willing to pay extra for it. I'm going with the Ranger myself because I want some bling. :P
