Hello everyone,

Let me first off excuse myself for bad english grammar you may encounter in this post since english is not my native language.

I just tried to boot up my machine as usual, but I noticed the bootup took a little longer than usual.

I'm booting from the Crucial M4 and should have just skipped the welcome screen straight to desktop but instead, it kept hanging on the welcome screen for a couple of seconds and just presented me with a black screen.

Instinctively I opened task manager and tried starting "explorer". But that resaulted in a system freeze.

That was kind of strange to me so I just rebooted and tried again.

Again i got the same problem.

Now this is the strange part. I unplugged 1 HDMI (wich i used to watch a movie with yesterday) and plugged my other 1 of the 2 screens back in.

And i unplugged a random usb drive from my front IO with only some random pictures on it.

Rebooted again, took a little on the welcome screen but succesfully booted to my desktop.

Now i'm wondering what caused this random black screen.

If any of you guys have any idea, just let me know so i can maybe prevent this from happening again.

Thank you for your time.

ur gpu maybe on blink? what specs have you got? have you checked for malware? dodgy install on windows or part gone corrupt, do a startup repair for that part.

If ur GPU is dead or dying replacing it is only way really..

Maybe a conflict with hardware parts and drivers has happened to me before

Have you installed anything new recently or been on any dodgy sites?

Worst comes to worst with OS reinstall it, could fix a lot of issues also :)

The black screen isnt random at all. Your video signal went to your most recent configuration and not necessarily to the primary default display. If you were connected to multiple displays, the signal was probably sent to the second monitor which you had turned off. Best solution is to check (turn on) both monitors and see where the video signal is being sent to then go to display settings and change which monitor should be the default primary one.

Tip: When doing fresh installs of any OS, its best to have only one dvi, hdmi or vga (latter not recommended) connected to only one monitor on first time OS boot.
