Quick thermal paste question

Go to solution Solved by W-L,

Sorry I should have also said I don't have any to replace it with, so it sounds like I shouldn't risk it?

I've taken off a cooler before and put it back on temporarily with no issues really, it will be fine in most cases even for long term but if you do notice an increase in temps afterwards then it will need to be replaced.

I just mounted the block of a Corsair h100i to the cpu but I haven't yet turned it on. Can I take it off and put it back on before first use without removing & reapplying thermal paste, or is it already too late? It's the pre-applied kind that came already on the block.

You should be fine. Just make sure it's good and tight with no air bubbles. If you make a mess, you might want to just start over.

It's best to re-apply it every time to prevent trapped air bubbles in the thermal paste but I would only do this temporarily especially if you see high CPU temps.
