If you saw this post: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/317062-laptop-for-school/, then I think I have found a laptop that would work almost perfectly for me for school. I have settled on the Asus 2 in 1 (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-2-in-1-15-6-touch-screen-laptop-intel-core-i5-8gb-memory-1tb-hard-drive-black/5827053.p) which is in my budget especially because it is on sale right now. I am considering going for the more expensive one which has an i7 and an 840m. What do you guys think?

Meh I would stick with the i5 as long as it's a quad core. If they gave you iPads originally I doubt you're gonna need a very powerful PC.. Lol

On the non Intel side better A8s and A10s.

There are no current-gen mobile i5 quadcores. All dual core with hyperthreading.

Want quad? Want i7.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

xD trust me, I agree with you on that, but AMD doesn't really compete with Intel as far as medium high to high end chips go.

Then what about the mobile FX APUs?

Mobile APUs are worse than the dual core i5 mobile chips.

You sure about that? http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Kaveri-FX-7500-Notebook-Processor.117332.0.html

Performance

According to the clock rates, the FX-7500 offers a CPU performance similar to the Haswell-based Intel Core i3-4100U. Overall, the FX-7500 is sufficient for all daily workloads (Office, Internet browsing, multimedia) as well as light multitasking.

If an ULV haswell i3 is the equivalent of that A10... well... I wouldn't want to see what the i5-4200H would do to it.

Oh hey thanks for that... Didn't catch that... Well the APU has the better on board graphics going for it?

Yes, APUs have good onboard graphics. Those blow intel out of the water. But mobile APUs are all TDP limited garbage that suck more than a bucket of ticks at a dog show when performance is your concern.

And the 860M anyway tears any iGPU on the planet to shreds.
