You guess it! Just another noob ready to build.. and hopefully not waste a lot of money in the process. I need to make the most of my money so please don't be a fanboy or just recommend something randomly without a source to back it up. Please explain yourself why you would choose or change something followed by a good (detailed) explanation. Thanks!

With all that being said here is what I have come up with so far...

         Budget: $900 +/-$100 (Intel Rig)

   Processor: I5-4690k

Looks good to me :D maby a 240 ssd instead of 120 becuase 120 just isnt alot of room at all after you get an OS on there

He said, he'll only use it for the OS. So 120 is enough for that. Even my 60GB is enough for that.

Best 970? My favorit is the Gigabyte G1 Gaming. Has the best air cooler you can get and is damn quiet.

A small update to dadasmithywinkle's build. I changed mobo, because money was being wasted. I also changed RAM, because it was CAS 11, instead of CAS 9. Also saved some money on the SSD; they'll all perform about the same.

Last, I changed the GPU to a better model. You can SLI with it.

The Asus Z97-E has very similar features as the Z97-A but less expensive. PNY memory modules, less expensive than Vegeance and lower profile so they will not interfere with the cpu cooler when installed in the first memory slot. Also black to match the motherboard. A less expensive ssd and hdd. No noticeable performance difference. A much better psu. 550W is enough for the build and will even handle some upgrading.
