Does DirectX comes with Win 7

Yes DX11 comes with Win7 but DX9 which is what most things still use including many media players is not included. i suggest getting their web installer as it will just get all the updates, no just the latest one.

It indeed does come with windows... just not the full suite as TheProfosist pointed out. You still need to grab the DirectX Web Installer to get all the previous versions and any new updates to that version of DirectX installed.

BUT, not every version of Windows has every version of DirectX support.

The upcoming DirectX 12 will be Windows 10 only.. luckily Windows 7 and 8/8.1 owners of legit keys can register and get a free Windows 10 upgrade license as long as it is claimed in the first year of release.

DirectX 10 and 11 is supported on Windows Vista, 7 and 8/8.1. Windows XP and earlier do not get support for either of those, only up to DirectX 9 on Windows XP.

I believe it comes with basic dx9

so I always use this http://filehippo.com/download_directx/when I clean install pc.

 

as for dx 10.1/11 it comes with game updates from steam.

Vista does not have DX11 support without hacks and technically Win7 only has DX11 while 8 has D3D 11.1 and 8.1 has D3D 11.2. Windows XP actually launched with DX8.x support if I recall correctly.

Oh snap, I didn't even know there was a DirectX 11.2 hahaha... does it even make any difference?

I have two-way SLI NVIDIA GTX 680 which  came out long before DirectX 11.2 so I don't think it'll make a difference to me. Yep, just checked DxDiag, my feature levels are 11.0, 10.1, 10.0, 9.3, 9.2, 9.1. No fancy 11.1 or 11.2... if any games even take advantage of it that is.

Yeah, it's pretty much a rule of thumb you have to run the DirectX Web Installer after a fresh reinstall of Windows. It always lacks those needed libraries for many games and also things like certain .net framework and certain VC Redistributable packages... not sure why Windows never included those, maybe to keep the iso size as small as possible and keep the install of Windows as fast as possible that they considered those things to be optional other than the latest versions of each.
