So I've actually never played a game where this has happened to me before. I'm playing an old game if it matters, made in 06 on PC. I maxed all the settings since I have a GTX 980. I turned vsync on, gonna try with it off now. But I believe the term is screen tearing,  game look great but the middle of the screen kinda separates from the top/bottom sometimes like they shift a little....how do I fix this? Thanks.

It does that with V-Sync on?

This should give you the info I think you're looking for:

The quick and dirty explanation: Screen Tearing is what happens when you're card is feeding more frames per second than your monitor can display, causing more than 1 frame to be displayed. V-Sync forces your FPS to your displays refresh rate(usually 60 FPS), to eliminate this issue. However, V-Sync has its own limitations, most notably if you're producing less than 60 FPS, you will get lag/stuttering. FreeSync/G-Sync is supposed to be the best of both worlds essentially, however you need a capable display to achieve this.
