Gtx 260

Go to solution Solved by Speedyv,

It gets to about 82 under max load in games. When I run War thunder on medium 1680x1050 I get anywhere from 50-60 fps, but the gpu does get to 80 degrees. It only gets to 82 in Dayz, where its under max load and my processor is chilling at about 50% usage.

According to this:

http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-260/specifications

Max temp is 105C, but that's the edge. I'd keep it under 90C.

So, I have had my gtx 260 for quite a while now. I have enjoyed it, but it is definitely time for an upgrade. In the mean time, I use it to game on, and it gets pretty toasty. During Furmark 720p no AA it gets all the way up to 83 degrees. 1080p 8xMSAA gets it up to 86 degrees. It is in immaculate condition, I replaced the thermal paste, and had to spend 45 minutes hand cleaning the fan+heatsink.  It doesn't lose performance as it heats up, and the fans don't kick up past 60% (which is nice considering they sound like a 747 past 80%, but it worries me that it gets that hot and only goes to 60%) Should I let my 7 year old performance GPU get that hot? Is it safe for it? And if anyone can find it, what is the safe operating temp for it?

P.S - I have kept it at an extremely stable overclock since I got it a few years ago. Never really made it get any hotter, but got noticeable performance increases across the board.

The problem is that this is an nVidia product and scoring any nVidia product a "zero" is also highly predictive of the number of nVidia products the reviewer will receive for review in the future.

I wasn't wrong. It's extremely rare that I am. I provided sources as well. Different devs can disagree. Further, we now have confirmed discrepancy from Twitter about he use of the pre-release 1080 driver in AMD's demo despite the release 1080 driver having been out a week prior.

You apparently haven't seen his responses to questions on YouTube. He is very condescending and aggressive in his comments with which there is little justification. He acts totally different in his videos. I don't necessarily care for this content style and there is nothing really unique about him or his channel. His endless dick jokes and toilet humor are annoying as well.

Below 90c should be fine for it, though the cooler the better. (To a point)

Depends how hot.

Good on you for keeping that thing alive.
