so i had the brilliant idea of taking the fan out of an old PSU and using it for my computer. but it connects via a 2 pin connector. can i just plug this into a 3 pin slot and will it work? is there any way for me to use this?

The ridges/slot placement aren't going to line up properly with a motherboard fan connector. You're going to need to break/file/cut the tabs on the plug off.

With new fans at as low as £4 (say$5) why bother faffing about?  Surely money isn't THAT tight.

It's always nice to re-use something, isn't it? Ever heard of recycling? :)

Always? Sometimes it is easier, better, cheaper to use new.

 Ever heard of recycling? :)

Yeah.  But what if the something being recycled uses more resources by using it, than the resources you would use getting then using new?

Remember the 'proper' order is

reduce-reuse- (and only then) recycle.
