Firste Build. PSU Choice.

Go to solution Solved by Guest,
Assuming you want a Red/Black theme.

Swapped a few things around (Motherboard, SSD and 2nd Monitor) Also added a quality power supply which is enough for SLI.

The Asus PB278Q will give you better colour reproduction for your 3D Animation. It is 1440p resolution the same as the ROG Swift.

Changed the SSD to the excellent Crucial MX100.

The MSI Gaming 5 is a very nice looking board, and it will look good with the other parts.

You will notice that I removed all the fans. I would suggest you try it first with the stock case fans. If you don't like the temps then add some fans in. I would go with something like the Aerocool DS fans or Alpenfohn do some nice Black/Red fans.

Hello Everybody.

I am in the process of putting together my first custom computer.

Link: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/x62qQ7

But i need to pick a PSU, but i don't want to pick one with to much power, but it stil needs to be usabel when i eventually upgrade it to a computer with SLI and a Custom water loop.

My first choice was Corsair AX860i.

The computer is going to be used for gaming and novic-beginner 3D Animation.

Any help is very much appreciated. Thank you.

Edit: I forgot to write that the SLI Config i plan to add, in about 2-3 years, is probably going to be 2 GTX 980.

you got one GPU

you wont need 860 watts

you onyl need like 500-550watts at most

SLi 970 full system draws 650 watts

so you only need a 750 Watts model

but Corsair is way overpriced

go for the EVGA G2 750

My i5-4590 + GTX 970 system ran on an EVGA 500W perfectly fine.  Unless you're getting a PSU for future SLI upgrades, there's no need to spend $200 on a friggin' PSU.

My suggestion would be an EVGA Supernova 750W if you want to SLI in the future.

If you don't want that, just find a decent 550-600W Corsair/EVGA/Not-crap brand.

My first choice was Corsair AX860i.

700-800 watts would leave sufficient upgrade room, while 800-900 is a tad much but not excessively so (it leaves you room to use more power hungry GPUs if you ever choose to do so).

Take the EVGA G2 750 or the Super Flower Leadex Gold it's based on (if you like lights and it goes on sale). If you must have platinum efficiency, the Antec HCP-750 is fantastic (and cheaper).

EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2 | Fractal Design Define R5 Titanium Window | Phanteks PH-TC14PE | ASUS BW-12B1ST

Hej lee.

Thanks for the list. Unfortunately i bought the BenQ monitor about 2 years ago, so that can't be changed. sorry for not saying.

Another thing is that i have a personal problem with most motherboards is the way they look, to me they look very cluttered, that was why i picked a motherboard with "Thermal Armor".

And i know that it does NOTHING for the temperature, to me it is just apparel, it look neater and cleaner to me.

But i will definitely be looking at the MSI Board.

Color really doesn't matter to me. It did for a while, and if the Sabertooth Board doesn't look good then i'm gonna take the "Armor" and spray paint it.

Another problem i have is that i live in Denmark, so most of the prices on pcpartpicker unfortunately doesn't help me much. (Amazon.co.uk is pretty much the only one i can use)

About the SSD, there is only about 9-10 £ difference between the Crucial drive and the Samsung drive from the cheapest places i'm going to buy from.

The power supply might be the one. most of the people who has responded to my post has recommended EVGA.

I'm very sorry for shooting down so many of your suggestions, i will definitely be looking at the Asus PB278Q monitor (and see if i can squeeze it into my budget) and the MSI Gaming 5 Motherboard.

And i do really appreciate every post, suggestion and piece of information you and everybody else leave. so thank you very much. :)

No need to apologise  :)

If you already have the BenQ then that is fine. Just stick with that and the ROG Swift as that is a nice setup.

If you like the thermal Armour then check out the other Asus Sabertooth board called the 'Sabranco' It looks pretty nice imo, and you can also get matching Ram from Avexir.

I don't know if it is available in Denmark so you would have to look around.

The EVGA G2 is a very good psu so I would definately go with that if you can.
