Hello!
So, my SSD (Samsung 840...) crashed the other day and that was my boot-drive. I dont have a Windows 8 DVD and I installed it last time with a USB where I downloaded the installation file from internet. (I have the produkt key) But now when I insert the USB and boot from it (in BIOS) then i get this error where it says that the media-drive is missing some installation-files. I used this USB last time I installed my windows ( about 1.5 year ago).

Does anyone know where I can download it from? I obviously cant start my 'big' computer but i have a laptop to use... If that does any difference.... Thanks for the help!

Do you have the ISO?

Download the iso and create a boot drive using a tool such as Rufus.

Just placing the files on the USB will not work.

It will if you set the USB to boot using diskpart in the cmd line and have it copy over the ISO's boot key.

Here's how to do all that. I use Virtual Clone Drive to mount the ISO myself.

Here is the Windows 8 media creation tool.

That should be everything you could need @On1Y5an3. If the creation tool fails, just use it to download the ISO (since it offers that as an option) and follow the first link's method. That method worked for me just fine.

Note that using the Create Media tool, the download is horribly slow at first. It said it would take 24 hours to download the ISO for the first 40%, then it speeds it tremendously. Your internet speed isn't the issue. It's their server and prioritization that's doing it and there's no way around it other than to find somewhere else to get the ISO.

Good luck and have fun. I went through this recently setting up my nephew's computer. It was painful because most methods failed until I found that "make your own USB bootable" guide I linked above. Then it was smooth sailing... until the horribly long download time for the create media tool came up.

*sigh* I wish Microsoft made this easier. When they say Piracy is an availability issue, they aren't kidding.
