Let's design the best input for laptops.

Alright,I got a little game for ya,this morning I was thinking what would I do if I had to go to a lan party with a laptop and forgot a mouse/dind't had a mouse for some reason. So obviously the first question was "could I play properly with the touchpad?",and I mean RTS,MOBAs or FPS games,I asked some people and the answer was basically no (then again if you disagree by all means say it). Then I tough about trackballs (which don't really come with laptops anymore),and again the answer was negative.

So the question then becomes:what could (gaming) laptops use in order to make the games playable without the use of a mouse?,so if you have time to waste by all means let's post our ideas.I'l start:first I think it's important to think about what makes a touchpad usually uncomfortable, the first thing that personally comes to mind is the positioning,on the bottom with the left and right clicks below the pad itself,so I tough that maybe laptops could stick with the touchpad, but put it on the side, wide to be used with the palm, and have the clicks on the top.

Something with lasers could work too.

Move over trackpad, its time for the trackpoint to shine again:

Seriously though, these things are surprisingly good for gaming, especially when considering their size. Essentially its just a mini joystick, so it can move infinitely in each direction. The accuracy is kind of meh, but if you turn down the sensitivity its good enough. The left and right click placement is great on most halfway decent laptops which also makes it more ergonomic than trackpads so its pretty much win-win.

-fixed my broken English.
