Can someone explain to me what is the importance of refresh rates of a monitor? I currently have a Asus Vs248h-P and I am planning on getting a second one (dual monitors), but I have looked into the Asus Vg248QE. This has a 144 Hz refresh rate. So can someone tell me what the refresh rate is all about and please don't give me any Benq monitors thank you.

Here's a video Linus made about it:  (Partly because I'm lazy, secondarily because if I explain it someone will most likely argue with me anyways)

It's basically how many FPS your monitor can actually show. a 144Hz monitor is only useful if you're going to be running games that you can play at over 144FPS. If you can only run games at 60FPS it wont do anything for you.

In layman's terms, it's how many times (per second) your monitor refreshes the image on the screen.
