Try booting Linux off a USB stick and see if it's the drive.

Yeah, that doesn't mean something could be wrong with that drive and the mobo, just try it. Also reset the BIOS.

Try flashing the BIOS. It doesn't take long to do. I'm not sure if the RVE has the tool or not, but my Sabertooth Z77 had a utility where I could update the BIOS in Windows, it worked well. Try that.

If not, there's always the USB way.

ok well this is weird but I unplugged my keyboard and put another one in and I don't get the bootscreen anymore. and I replugged in my old one and don't get the bootscreen anymore? It is like 7 seconds maybe faster? still slow as hell though. but does that make any sense?

Some reason ASUS boards had an issue with USB devices causing extremely long post. Found this out with my overclocking adventures on the P8Z77-V.

it is just a mouse and keyboard I have plugged in. I tried unplugging BOTH and it did seem the quickest since all I got was a NO KEYBOARD error......

Have you tried moving anything connected to the onboard USB2.0 connectors (e.g. the front panel ones), I found moving that to the 2nd port helped when I got this issue.
