New GPU install: black screen with mouse cursor

Hey, a friend of mine recently upgraded his GPU from a GTX 570 to an R9 280x MSI everything should be fine power-wise and spec wise. He said it worked fine for a little while and then black screened when he next booted up. Anybody know how to fix the issue?

H67 Motherboard

8GB DDR3 RAM

They're installed, the issue happened right after the catalyst drivers were installed.

can you boot with the 570 and use it to reinstal amd catlys 14.12 drivers
