Hey guys

I am planning on building my first pc primarily for gaming using these parts

http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/Vp3Vgs

I have plans to add another graphics card in the future.

Any advice on improving this build?

What is your budget before I say anything else

Budget is around $900 Australian

SSD is a must, they should be only $50-70 aud on pccg, SSD will improve performance by a lot otherwise it looks fine to me. look at www.logicalincrements.com for guides on builds but yours looks pretty decent. It just needs an ssd thrown in the mix.

What? no...

SSD improves loading times.  There is little-to-no gaming performance added with a SSD.

No, SSD is not a must. It isn't worth it to sacrifice raw performance just to have a faster boot. He can always add the SSD later, but he can't do the same for the GPU or CPU, for instance.

If you don't mind me asking why a couple of you went with intel cpu's rather than an AMD for this budget?

Simple: AMD (cpu) is garbage. They refuse to release new products, and Intel just went ahead and said "okay, if you are giving up on the market, let me take that share".

As much as we all love AMD (as you can see by the GPU choices), Intel is just straight up better for CPUs.

It might not do anything game wise but its only an extra $50 for a SSD

Personal preference. I'd rather go AMD for a budget build since you can have overclock capabilities which intels don't unless you spend double of what AMD are putting out.

Huge mistake.  Even overclocked to 5GHz, the i5 will beat it while gaming.  Now to get the FX 6XXX series to 5GHz you need to spend more... robust VRM on the mobo, and aftermarket cooling... and then... the i5 at stock wins anyways.

Yes but you are recommending non K processors. No point buying non K processor for a budget build if you want it to last a long time. But it all depends what games you play I guess.

No.  Listen, the i5 even at 3.0 GHz beats the FX 63XX at 5GHz.  K-Series is not an argument in AMD and Intel CPU comparisons, it is irrelevant.

How much impact does the cpu actually have on game performance?

Depends on game. Some games need more, some need less.

As an example, I've tried playing Crysis 2 and Tomb Raider with my A6-3500 APU and a Gtx 970. I can max out graphics in crysis and have butter smooth 60fps, but I just couldn't get above 40 on Tomb Raider, no matter what I did.

The honest answer not that much, there are many benchmark videos on AMD vs Intel and yes intel always wins but not by much usually around 5 fps difference max in most games.

Some games are more cpu intensive then others so it depends on the game.
