Computer won't finish booting

Go to solution Solved by Micaj,

I took my computer to my cousins and used the psu out of his computer and everything worked just fine, it ended up being my power supply. Thank you every for the suggestions though. I apreciate the help

I am reusing an old computer case and an old antec 380 watt psu, according to my cousin the computer has something wrong with the OS (the computer would turn on but wouldn't completely boot up into the operating system) I am having the same problem. I personally think that there is something wrong with my psu, i jst finished testing it and it tested fine though, what could be wrong?

P.S. The psu is an Antec true 380s

@TokyoSin I have a Pentium G3258, 8gb of kingston fury ddr3 1600 ram, asus r9 270x 2gb direct cu ii, all on a gigabyte z87x oc board. pc part picker sais that i will use around 321 watts

Ah okay, you've got a small amount of head room then. Try booting with just one stick of RAM.

@TokyoSin @DoggyDogger i only have one stick of 8gb ram, i wanted to upgrade to 32 eventually so i didnt want any waist jst to take advantage of the dual channel, and i wiped the old hdd before i istalled my current one, also i am using a completely different hdd. it randomly started doing this out of the blue. is it possible that there si something wrong with my psu,and its just being sketchy and will work sometimes but not all the time?

@snarkygoldfish just goes black, no mtherboard splash screen no nothing

If the system remains running, it's not a power supply issue. It's some other hardware, like your RAM.

I would try removing the battery and resetting the bios then make sure boot priority is right because obviously it will change when reset

and yes you could load a memory test on a usb stick there are bootable ones available question is if you can get them to load if you cant get into bios to change boot priority

Well maybe its time for an other power supply, they dont cost much and if that is not the problem you can return it.

can you hook the monitor to the motherboard? I would pull the graphics card and see if I could get the machine running. Even though I think that little 380watt isn't good enough to run the 270................. I have one of those. I wouil;dn't run a decent card on it.

the 32gigs of ram... for what? I would invest in a multi core processor before I'd add 24gigs more than I would ever use......... nothing wrong with running 1 stick of ram.

I have had similar problems where the pc wont boot on the monitor even though the all the fans are spinning. My HDD was spinning as well, so I tried to eliminate the hardware possibilities.

First make sure that your cpu is attached properly.

second, if possible, remove your GPU and use the motherboard display ports(vga/dvi/hdmi etc) to see if it picks up the signal.

third, attach the gpu properly, try cleaning it up if its a bit messy.

fourth, try swapping the display cables.
