Ok so I'm thinking about trying an amd build pairing an fx 9590 with a r9 290x on a msi 970 mobo with 32gb of corsair veng. Can anyone tell me what kind of performance I would be Looking at? Also would a corsair h100i gtx be enough to cool the 9590? Is there anything I need to know before starting this project?

... What would the point be in getting an AMD build? You could get an Intel one for the same price that makes the AMD one look whorible.

As long as your talking about gaming get an i65...

And just go with an 8350/70 if you really want to go with AMD... 9590 is pointless.

If your editing, go with either a 4790(K), or a LGA 2011 Xeon, for better Performance in that.

Just remember: Random people on the internet ALWAYS know more than professionals, when someone's lying, AND can predict the future.

i7 9700K (5.2Ghz @1.2V); MSI Z390 Gaming Edge AC; Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB 3200 CAS 16; H100i RGB Platinum; Samsung 970 Evo 1TB; Samsung 850 Evo 500GB; WD Black 3 TB; Phanteks 350x; Corsair RM19750w.

Laptop: Dell XPS 15 4K 9750H GTX 1650 16GB Ram 256GB SSD

Why the 9590?

You can't be serious.  Hyperthreading is a market joke?

dont buy brand even if you hate feminist frequency or intel scams :D

get overclockable i7 and be done with it. Allways get better, more powerful processor first, then cpu cooler later or even use stock for a while, because 4790k at base frequency absolutelly destroys 9590.

I wanted to do the amd build because over all it looks like it would be cheaper. And the amd 9590 is only $235 but has a base clock of 4.7 and can oc to 5, and 8 cores. Where as the 4790k is about a 100$ more but doesn't seem to give all that much better prefomance.

And I hold no brand loyalty.

Now the msi mobo is only 97$ but there is the rog crosshair v formula z wich cost more but seems to have a better set up?

Whilst the i7 4790K might be $100 more, you will need to spend a lot more on cooling (H100i/H105 etc) and a higher end Motherboard that can cope with the TDP of the 9590 cpu.

You can use a $30 cooler and a low end board with the i7 4790K so it balances out.

If you want to go AMD then get the 8320 and overclock it. Otherwise go for an i7.

Yeah like @lee32uk said the AMD 9590 is a nightmare to cool without spending a good amount on a decent cooler. I personally would go for the I7 4790k or a Intel Xenon e3 1231 v3 which is just as good as the 4790k but at a cheaper price point and does not have integrated graphics like the 4790k but you will be betting a GPU so it won't matter.

So if I switch to a 4790k should I stay with a r9 290x or would it just be better to go for the gtx 970?

Both are good cards. Just make sure you get a 290X with a good cooler (Gigabyte Windforce for example) if you go for the AMD graphics card.

What is this pc being used for ?

If you give a budget for the tower, then people can do you a better spec with an i7 and 970/290X

I'm looking at around 1500-1600 and really general use, casual gaming, and some editing. Honestly building it more for the love of building computers than anything.

And how is the reference cooler on the 290x?

The reference coolers on the 290/X are horrible. They are loud and run very hot. You definitely want to go with a non ref version.

If you give me 30mins or so I will do you an i7 spec. Just got a few things to do but will check back in a bit  :)
