As far as I know there will be a 980 TI this year.  It was scheduled to be released this month buuut due to issues with the die shrinking process it had to be postponed.

Nvidia has now switched and will be using a Samsung die, and the chip did not get the die shrink.  This causes more heat output so I believe at the moment they are having issues with heat in the cards... may have solved it by now, but not sure.

The card will have 6gb of vram, with the Titan variant will have 8gb.  At least thats the way it was slated to go.  Beyond this would be speculation...

The AMD 390X will blow the 980 out of the water.... I would say if anyone is in the market for a high end GPU dont buy anything yet. Wait. Because no matter what you buy, in 2-3 months when both AMD and Nvidia's top cards are revealed you're gonna wish you had waited.

correct, but as i said...nvidia will launch a ''big maxwell'' die...that's a given...they can put A LOT more than 2048 cuda cores on there and this architecture is VERY efficient so i wouldnt be surprised at all if they launch a card with over 3000 maxwell cuda cores.

I bought the GTX980 at release date because it´s up to this day the fastest GPU. No doubt that GM200 will walk all over the GM204. The rumor has it that it will feature 6-12GB VRAM and come with 3072 Maxwell Cuda. Just insane, I will buy 3 of those bad boys and OC them with my custom loop with modded BIOS and crush benchmarks.

I´m so excited to see those cards... I´m done with GM204.

The 980 is the 770's replacement and not the 780 Ti. Big maxwell is coming

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1351?vs=1072 . 980 outperforms 780 Ti while having better OC potential. So in terms of performance, it is absolutely 780 Ti replacement. That said, if you own 780/780 Ti, there is no reason to upgrade - performance difference is there, but minimal.

I do agree on big Maxwell. That is kinda no-brainer for nVidia. 3096 cores, 4MB cache and probably either stacked memory, or 512bit conventional one. 1.5 GTX 980 in terms of performace. They can even release the lower binned chips as GTX 980 Ti, with some cores disabled.
