Hello, I've watched Linus's videos for a long time, but I never actually had an account here. I made an account today to see if I can get some input on this new build I am going to be accomplishing.

I love building computers, however when I lost my job I had to sell my gaming rig to make ends meet. Now that I am on my feet again, I am looking to build another computer. A serious computer. I want to get the best performance I can. So here is the build I came up with. (see attached picture) I would like to see if I can get some feedback on the build I've put together, before I purchase it.

I would like to know if I derped somewhere, or if there will be any bottle necks anywhere. I feel as if the build here would be great for gaming. The main thing I am aiming here for is purely. 2k gaming. However, possibly in the future 4k gaming. I will also being live streaming at maximum quality. Would this build be able to hold up to 2k streaming and possible 4k streaming?

The game I will be probably playing this most is Star Citizen, maxed along with live stream on Twitch.

Thanks for reading this thread, and I apologize if this is not the correct thread, and thank you for your constructive criticism.

It's good to see my month of none stop researching to catch my brain up on today's tech paid off then. Haha. Glad to see this rig is approved of. A lot of my time went into getting a rig just right. Without going over 5g's.

Maybe once I get used to this website I will post the final product once I buy all the parts, along with some benchmarks.

awesome rig, maybe as a final touch get some individually sleeved cables. pretty sure cablemod has some for that psu. dont forget to take photos (:

Yes, some individually sleeved cables (white) are in the build picture already. :) Going for a whiteout look. I have some white LED Strips to go on the sides of the window to illuminate the inside as well. Even the Corsair DDR4 RAM has white LED's and I'm pretty sure the Corsair CPU Cooler has a white LED too.

By the time the build is completed I'm sure I will be used to this website. So I will definitely post pictures and maybe some benchmarks.

If you are set on going for an X99 system (I personally wouldn't if it is for Gaming/Streaming) then go with the i7 5820K. If you use Shadowplay then it shouldn't affect performance that much (Maybe 5% or so).

Corsair Dominator looks very nice and all that, but it won't give you any extra performance over a standard kit of Ram. You are paying a huge premium just for a bit of bling.

The SSD is also pricey when you compare it to the 850 Evo or Crucial MX100 which will both do exactly the same thing. Unless you are benchmarking then you won't notice any difference in real world usage.

The psu can easily be dropped down to a 750W or 850W if you want headroom. The EVGA G2 is a solid choice though.

The reference 980 cards are also expensive. You can get the Asus Strix 980 or MSI Gaming 980 cards for less.

You also don't need hybrid SSHD drives as you already have an SSD. Just buy regular hard drives for mass storage.

At the end of the day you could easily buy a system for half this price, and then upgrade with the other $2.1K when things get outdated.

Price is not a big factor to me, however I found out that for 200 dollars less I can get DDR4 3000 and without the cooling unit. So I decided to go with that, which brings me just under 4,000 dollars. I am going for a bit of a flashy look, so I am willing to pay that extra bit, to match the way I am wanting to get my build. Reason for using the 1000W PSU was because I do plan on in the future possibly doing 3-way SLI. As well as a good bit of CPU Over Clocking and GPU Over Clocking. Again, price is not a big factor in my build. I'm simply going for best look and performance, but nothing crazy ridiculously expensive for no reason. My reason for going with a 850 Pro SSD was because I already have one in my current Frankenstein build and plan on setting them in Raid-0. As for the SSHD's. They are practically the same price as normal HDD, so I said why not get them and try them out.

I understand that the build could be a lot cheaper with the close to the same performance, but again. Price is not much of a factor for me in this particular build. I appreciate your criticism however. :)

Can I get a little more in-depth reason of why I disagree with the X99 Mobo?

You could get a 3 way SLI GTX 980 build for less. The i7 5820K can support 3 way although at less bandwidth than the 5930K. It shouldn't make a huge amount of difference in real world usage.

Also as I said the SSHD drives are overpriced as you can get a 1TB WD Blue for $45.

I wouldn't bother with Raid-0. If one drive fails then you lose the data on both afaik. Just run the SSD as a standalone.

I would probably use a different case if going 3 way SLI. Something like the Phanteks Enthoo Luxe.

I appreciate you showing me this. I am changing the Windforce to the one in the OP. However I may go with most of what you have showed me. I have to agree the 8-core may be a bit of an overkill :P As well as the Dominator Plat.

Well it is almost $1k cheaper and has 3 x 980's. You could go for the i7 5930K if you want the extra pci-e lanes and still be under $4200.
